Act Six

Corban is proud to partner with the Portland Leadership Foundation to offer full-tuition, full-need Act Six Scholarships to students from the Salem and Portland area. As part of the scholarship program, Act Six provides leadership training for emerging urban and community leaders who want to use their college education to make a difference on campus and in their communities at home.

  • More than 85 percent of Act Six scholars come from low-income households or are the first in their families to attend college.
  • Act Six scholars have achieved retention and graduation rates that far exceed national averages.
  • 72% of Act Six alumni return to work in their home community.

All right. Hi. I'm Carlos and I'm one of the Act Six Scholars. This scholarship is definitely like something that has changed my life completely, and in just a mind blowing fashion. I know this year hasn't been traditionally what it is every other year. I've struggled with unrest and everything that's going on here, and that kind of shaped our year, our school year so far. But this scholarship has definitely brought a piece of mind that I don't think I would have had going anywhere else.

Hi, my name is Lydia Valdez. A college education is really important for me and Act Six has just opened a door for those who cannot afford a college education, and I'm just really thankful.

Hi, my name is Tiana. And I'm one of the Act Six recipients. For me, I want to be a role model for my siblings. So I wanted to take this opportunity show that you can do it and that there's opportunities out there for everyone. You just got to look for it and strive for it.

Hi, my name is Emily Medina. Act Six provided me with a family and a group of friends that I just know that I can go, I can talk to them, if I'm having a rough night, they're just always there.

Obviously, money is a big part of where we decide to go to school. And to have that completely eliminated from your mind and completely gone is something that is just mind blowing. And it's something I'm like eternally thankful for. Regardless, where I end up in life it's just been like an amazing opportunity up to this point so far.

Act Six for me is like an answered prayer. After high school. I didn't have any plans for college, and so as soon as I heard about Act Six, I went out for it. And it was a prayer that I've been asking God for.

As a first generation college student, it's really important to go to college because you set that first milestone for your family and only having a younger sibling, it just makes me want to be that influence and that role model for her so that she can also go to college, because it's my goal to one day have my mom have my diploma in her living room. And that's just really important for me because that way like people will see that "Oh, her daughters did that."

I don't know if you guys realize this but, you're literally giving us our future. You are providing me with my future. Without school, I wouldn't, I don't know where I'd be going right now. And you're literally paving my future where I'm going to go from here is, thanks to being able to go to school, and having it paid for me.
