At Corban, we have tutoring for any student that needs extra help in a subject. They can also use tutoring for studying for a test or just different things that they are not understanding for their class. Our tutors our students who have taken the class previously. We try to connect students with a student who has taken the class with that specific professor so they know exactly what the professor wants.
Tutoring is free for students but the students who are working as tutors are paid for the time that they spend with them. They will just set up a time to meet with the tutor that works for them someplace around campus. Another aspect of tutoring that we have is our writing and editing help. Any student who has a paper that they want extra help with or want it edited, they can come to me with one of our writing or editing tutors, and they can go through the paper and help them with the different things that need to be fixed before they turn it in.
Any student who has had accommodations in high school, either a 504 plan or an IEP, they can bring that to us and we will review that and talk with them and see what accommodations they can have here at Corban. They possibly won't be exactly the same but we use that to create accommodations for them here at Corban.
We have the testing center available to students who need to make up a test or who may have accommodations to take their tests in a different location. There is a form that we have for people to fill out and then we'll get you scheduled and on iCalendar we'll have a proctor here ready for you to complete your test -- whether that's on paper, online -- whatever that may look like.
Academic coaching is something that we have available for students who are looking for that one-on-one time with someone that you can help them with their academics. So in academic coaching, we could be talking about time management, setting goals, organization, study skills so that you are doing your academics well by the end of the semester.
